Günter Rössler (January 6, 1926 in Leipzig – December 31, 2012 in Leipzig) was a German photographer and photo-journalist who got famous for his artistic nude photographs which made him the ''Helmut Newton of the East'' The Leipzig Historical Museum dedicated an exhibition to him showing 40 of his fashion photographs.〔(【引用サイトリンク】url=http://www.stadtgeschichtliches-museum-leipzig.de/site_deutsch/ausstellungsarchiv/studio_roessler.php )〕 == Biography == Rössler studied at the "University for Graphic and Book Design" (Hochschule für Grafik und Buchkunst) in Leipzig. Since 1951, he worked as freelance fashion and advertisement photographer, as well as photo journalist. He started doing nude photography in the 1960s and was one of the pioneers of the genre in the German Democratic Republic (GDR). In the time between 1954 to 1990, Rössler was contributing mainly to GDR fashion magazines like ''Modische Maschen'', the monthly magazine ''Das Magazin'' and photo journals like ''Fotokino-Magazin''. His first exhibition of nude photographs in "Kunsthaus Grimma" in 1979 made big waves in the GDR. However, his pictures were not considered offensive and even school classes visited this and following exhibitions of the artist.
